Growing Together with Ümmühan Oğuz

Growing radishes with confidence, season after season

For more than 35 years, Ümmühan Oğuz has been farming in Antalya, Turkey. With decades of experience in vegetable production, she knows how important reliable seeds and consistent quality are for successful growing. For the past 18–20 years she has focused on radish production, and for the last 12 years she has been working successfully with Hazera’s Mentor variety.

Solving problems in the field

Before switching to Mentor, disease pressure was one of the biggest challenges in production. According to Ümmühan, previous varieties often caused problems that affected both yield and quality.

“With my previous seeds, we had a lot of cracking, discoloration and powdery mildew,” she says. “Diseases like powdery mildew are one of the main problems in radish production. With Hazera’s Mentor, I have not experienced these issues much. I’m very happy with the results, which is why I have continued using it for many years.”

For her, the decision to continue with the same variety year after year is simple: consistency in the field means confidence in the market. “As long as I keep farming, I will keep working with it,” she says.

Quality that fits the grower’s needs

Besides disease tolerance, plant quality and uniformity are key factors in daily production. Ümmühan explains that the Mentor variety meets the requirements she looks for in a professional crop.

“The advantages for me are fast maturity, good quality roots, strong colour and the foliage size we want — not too long and not too short,” she says. “It is a high-quality seed.”

She still remembers the first harvest clearly. “When we planted it for the first time and started harvesting together with my husband, we immediately said: this is exactly the product we were looking for. After that, we continued working with it very happily.”

Support in the field makes the difference

According to Ümmühan, the cooperation with Hazera goes beyond the seed itself. Technical support and close contact with agronomists helped improve production over the years.

“After we started working with Hazera, their agronomists supported us closely,” she says. “Together we solved disease problems, improved our soil conditions and started producing very good crops.”

The improved quality also strengthened her position in the market.
“When the quality is good, buyers stay with you,” she explains. “Because the product is good, our returns are better and we become better producers.”

Built on trust for the future

For Ümmühan, long-term cooperation is based on reliability in the field. A variety that performs well year after year gives the confidence to continue investing in the crop.

With consistent performance, close support and a variety that fits local conditions, she is confident to continue growing radish with Hazera in the years to come.
